Hosting Service - 3 Different Types Of Hosting Services

One of the technology pieces you need to make a website live online is to have a hosting service 'host' your website. Bottom line is your website won't work without it. The good news is there's different types of hosting service to choose from, and you can rest assured that you'll be able to find the perfect solution for your needs at a fair and reasonable price, if not free. With that in mind, let's discuss the 3 different types of hosting services you can choose from.

1. Shared Hosting - Shared hosting is exactly what the name says it is... a shared solution. Hosting actually works with a machine called a server, and in a shared hosting environment, you share the server with other people. The benefit of a shared environment is the cost for the service is extremely low and affordable, which is perfect for most people. Plus, as your business grows and you add more websites, the cost usually remains the same.

For instance, lets say you have 2 websites you own. One is your business website and the other is your personal blog. If you are just starting out or have moderate traffic hitting those sites, you probably will want to start with a shared hosting service. The cost can be as low as a few dollars per month, the service is usually very reliable, and you have control over your websites. The downside to a shared hosting environment is if the other sites are pulling lots of traffic, your websites may be affected with slow load times and slow response times.

Hosting Service - 3 Different Types Of Hosting Services

2. Dedicated Hosting - When your business starts getting a lot of traffic and you can't afford to have slow load times and slow response times, then you are probably ready for a dedicated hosting solution, which is where you are the only owner on the server. You can still have as many sites as you want on the server, but the reality is traffic is the main measurement of how well a server works. The more traffic you get, the more servers you might have to add to handle the traffic load.

The cost significantly increases for dedicated servers. A shared hosting service might run you under per month to start with, but a dedicated server might start closer to 0 per month. A good rule of thumb is to increase your server costs only when the business warrants the increase. If you are just starting out, you have really no need for a dedicated server.

3. Free Hosting - This one is a tricky one since free always sounds good, and the price is just right. However, in this case, free hosting is not wise if you are serious about your online business. Here's why. What you save in price, you give up in control. There are lots of services out there where you can make a website online, the company will host it for you and all you have to do is update the site and drive traffic to the site. Sounds good, right?

The real problem with this solution is if the company ever has a problem with what you are doing, if the company ever goes out of business, if the company changes direction, or whatever, you run the risk of your website being shut down altogether. You have no control and that's no way to run a professional business. What would happen if your site was getting you 1000 new visitors a day and tomorrow you lost it all? It would be the end of your business. Therefore, if you choose a free hosting option, understand the consequences of what might happen to your business.

There is a 4th option, which is to own and run your own server, but if you already knew how to do that, this article would be of no value to you.

Best Web Hosting Service For Internet Beginners

Your online business will prosper IF you start off with the best web hosting service.

As you're just getting started and not really making money yet, you naturally want to keep your investment cost low but yet you hope to find a best web hosting service to run your website. But you probably thought (like many others) that choosing a free hosting plan is the best option for an Internet beginner.

A bad move right from the start. Let me explain.

Best Web Hosting Service For Internet Beginners

What You Won't Get from a Best Web Hosting Service

In exchange of providing free hosting service for you, the provider will put up sponsored ads on your website. You can see those ads positioned at the most prominent spots on all your web pages. You definitely won't like that arrangement because those ads will obviously steal away your visitors' attention rather than getting them to focus on whatever (e.g. your information and products) you want to show them that will earn you money. But because it's free, you have no say to get them removed unless you upgrade to become its paid user.

Moreover, having your web pages cluttered with irrelevant and unwanted ads will weaken your credibility and professional presence. You won't get a second chance to impress the same website visitors because once they're gone, they're gone. Studies show that 70 - 80% of your business profitability hinges on returning visitors.

Is that what you should be expecting from a best web hosting service?

On top of that, you won't receive priority treatment should you encounter problems because the supports will serve those paid users before they come to you. So you should expect sluggish customer response from them.

Free hosting services are infamous for their low reliability by virtue of the low quality servers they purchase because like you, they also want to keep their business operating cost low. So, you should expect your website to go down anytime from few hours to few days. No surprise.

Even if you upgrade to become a paid user, you'll still experience the same potential downtime as those free users since they'll put your website on the same low quality server as they do for free websites. And you only get basic features to work with, at best, though you get more resources than those free users.

What then is Considered a Best Web Hosting Service?

Trust me. As your experience and skills grow few months down the road, you simply can't get enough as you need more powerful features and functions to give your website a more lucrative and professional boost.

Thus, even as a beginner, you should start with a reliable paid hosting service with which you can work for your long-term business growth and benefits.

Once you get used to using the web host and becomes a seasoned online entrepreneur, you'll breeze through managing and creating new professionally money-making website projects successfully with the same web host.

True. Keeping your initial investment cost down is your number one priority. But definitely not on web hosting.

How the heck are you going to earn money when your website keeps going down frequently. You simply won't have the mindset to carry on with marketing your products and driving traffic until you get your website back up and running again.

You'll be too busy spending most of your time emailing complaints to the provider trying to get your issues resolved. That's not what you want.

In addition, if your web host displays your website slowly (takes more than 7 seconds to load) on your visitors' screen, they'll ditch your site and jump over to others. You can't afford losing them, can you? Also, you'll waste time migrating your files and trying to get used to new platform and functions whenever you hop from one host to another.

So, don't be afraid to invest a little for a quality web host which will provide the best web hosting service experience even if you're just starting out. It actually doesn't cost you much nowadays due to tough competition. For just a few bucks a month you can easily get a highly reliable web host that gives you peace of mind, most importantly, keeps making you more money.
